The worst sickness, polio, has been spreading quickly.  Poor four year old Bobby catches it.  So Ann Fay becomes the oldest person in the house to look after her two little sisters.  Junior, their neighbor, offers to help out and tries to cheer everyone up.  Doctors from Yale visit to try to find the cause of Bobby's sickness.
